MAG 1® dexos1™ Gen 3

Dexos1™ Gen 3 was designed to address four key performance characteristics:

  1. Increase Fuel Economy
  2. Prevention of Low Speed Pre-Ignition (LSPI) commonly found in direct injection engines
  3. Better deposit control on turbochargers
  4. Aeration prevention

Beyond the increased performance of the lubricant, General Motors has also revised their official specification eliminating the need for 5W-20 viscosity for factory and service fill. The GM service bulletin can be found by clicking on the following link:

These performance upgrades are significant, and MAG 1 0W-20 and 5W-30 Full Synthetic API SP / ILSAC GF-6A oils will be dexos1 – Gen 3™ licensed when production begins September 1, 2022. Our MAG 1 5W-20 Full Synthetic API SN/GF-5 will continue to be available, but will no longer carry the dexos1 Gen 2 certification after September 1, 2022.
